Olmedo is a Biology Professor for the Panamanian Ministry of Education (MEDUCA) at the Centro Educativo General Bilingüe Kusapín. He graduated in 2018 with a Masters degree in Biology with a specialization in Plant Biology from the Universidad Autónoma de Chiriquí in David (UNACHI) where some of our students are now undertaking their undergraduate studies. Olmedo is a protector of natural resources and opposes hydroelectric and mining projects due to the history of habitat destruction, natural resource extraction and forced movement of indigenous peoples in Panama resulting from these projects. He loves his Ngäbe traditions, his Ngäbe culture and his Ngäbe people, for him his mother is the center of everything.
Olmedo’s incredible life story and inspiring work ethic is featured in one of our Faces of Few for Change videos. He frequently serves as a motivational speaker at FFC Scholarship Ceremonies, as a college counselor for our scholarship recipients, and most recently as a photographer during the FFC Scholarship ceremony. We are deeply grateful for Olmedo’s willingness to share his expertise, generous spirit and knowledge of the Panamanian university system with us and our students.
