Winter 2010

Dear Few for Change Supporters, As the days get longer and the sun shines brighter, things are also looking up at Few for Change! Before we share our good news, we would like to extend a huge "Thank you!" for all of your very generous and helpful contributions over the holidays. You really have made all the difference in this effort to bring positive change to the Ngöbe-Buglé people through education.

Which brings me to our news:

At the end of February, the first Few for Change scholarships were successfully distributed at a special ceremony in the Comarca. Over the winter months, we reviewed applications and selected three students from two Comarca communities, Quebrada Guabo and Cerro Iglesia, as scholarship recipients, based on inspiring essays about their desires to help their families, break the cycle of poverty, and become leaders in their communities. With $1,100 of the funds we have raised so far (about half of the total), we are able to cover the costs of a year of tuition, transportation, uniforms and materials for Corina, Aquilino, and Lorena. The funds will be distributed each trimester, and we plan to continue providing funding for these students in the following years. From what we hear from Aly, (SIT’s Academic Dean for Latin America and our former Program Director in Panama), the ceremony was wonderful. All of the students were very thankful and their parents were very proud.

To say the least, this has been a great success, and we owe it all to you – THANK YOU!

In other news, we are in the process of updating the website, with pictures from the award ceremony coming soon! It will be nice to put faces with the names. Also, please look for Few for Change merchandise at www.cafepress.com.  There are a couple different logos on t-shirts, mugs, etc.

Again, thank you so much for making this possible. As we continue onward, we are hoping to increase the effect we may have, empowering as many students as we can through education. With that in mind, if you feel inspired to donate, or spread the word about our cause, please do so. Now we may be just a few, but we’re all in it together. Happy Spring!

Saludos,

The Members of Few for Change
